Following yesterday’s announcement that two new officially licensed Halloween video games are in development, we now have details on the first, a throwback 16-bit style game called RetroRealms: Halloween, and it is set to be released this October.
Boss Team Games has announced RetroRealms, a new series of games for consoles and PC, and the first two games in this new series are based on John Carpenter’s iconic horror franchise Halloween and the Starz original series Ash vs Evil Dead, first reported today by IGN.
As seen in the announcement trailer below, both RetroRealms: Halloween and RetroRealms: Ash vs Evil Dead are 16-bit platformers.
In RetroRealms: Halloween, players take control of Michael Myers and other characters from the original 1978 film to slash through familiar settings.
In RetroRealms: Ash vs. Evil Dead, fans can play as Ash Williams to battle through iconic locations inspired by the STARZ original series while fighting Deadites and other familiar characters from the show.
“Everyone at Boss Team Games are huge fans of horror, and getting to work with these legendary properties is a dream come true,” Boss Team Games’ CEO Steve Harris explained in a press release. “It has been an amazing experience collaborating with WayForward, and our licensors to create not one, but two, fast-paced 90’s arcade style games while remaining true to the original Halloween film and Ash vs Evil Dead series. The trailer dropping today gives fans a taste of the gore-filled gameplay and fast-paced action and we can’t wait to show more!”
Both new games will be released on October 18 for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox. Each game can be purchased separately via a digital storefront for $24.99 each, or you can purchase a physical Double Feature bundle, which will retail for $49.99.
Although the games can be purchased and played separately, Boss Team Games is incentivizing players to purchase both, noting in today’s press release that purchasing both will grant players access to new features.
Both games are available for pre-order here, with physical “Double Feature” packs available from Amazon for PS4, PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, as well as PS5 Special Edition and Xbox Special Edition.
